PaneraiPanerai’s watchmaking adventure began in the early 20th Century and coincided with the opening of their boutique in Florence, Italy. It was 1938 that the “Guido Panerai & Figlio” company which would later become “Officine Panerai” produced its first watch. Equipped with a Rolex movement, its prototype and the subsequent production was based on an innovative concept stemming from a set of stringent technical specifications of its then sole client – the Italian Royal Navy. This order was intended to equip members of a secret unit being formed at the time. Panerai already supplied the Italians with mechanical calculators or torpedo tubes, for target devices, depth meters, compasses and chronographers for mines and submarine explosives, and from then on became a fixed item on the wrist of commandos and members of the Gamma force. The quality of Panerai watches is based on Italian design and creativity and Swiss know-how and expertise. This exceptional combination has lied at the basis of Officine Panerai’s development since its early days and is expressed by a number of fundamental elements characterizing Panerai’s workshop of ideas: Design, Movements, Water-Resistance.
